Thanks. I'm afraid it crashes on launch. I can send you the crash report.

I can reproduce it on a blank machine. I'll try to fix...

Thomas, I updated the package. Could you try again?

Now it no longer crashes.

As with previous versions I get this error message:

"Spek Warning

Cannot set locale to language "English (Denmark)"."

I've never seen that with other applications. And I don't remember seeing "English (Denmark)" anywhere else. Any idea what's causing it?

Alexander Kojevnikov's avatar

I don't but I'll investigate. Does it work otherwise or it exits after that error?

Thomas, could you add this as a new issue on GitHub? Please include what's shown in About this Mac -> System Report -> Software -> Language & Region.

I tested the windows msi and zip on fully updated Windows 11 x64. Windows smartscreen gave a warning when the msi installer was launched, but did not block the install when I selected "Run anyway". Tested wav, mp3 320, and flac successfully. Screenshots: https://imgur.com/a/sRpECEI

Great, thank you for testing, Isaac! The warning is expected until the installer is signed, I'll try to do it in a future version.

Hi from a newbie

I have just tried analysing a few 24 bit 96000 wav files and they show up as 16 bit on the graphic. Have I some alteration to the setup yet to do? or is this the standard?

Hi Alexander, I opened the dmg file on an old mac (OS Sierra) then I was able to copy the file generated on my new mac (OS Big Sur) and it seems working :-) Only one small issue the orange & red & purple waves is less easy to read than the previous colors (yellow, green etc...) Cheers

POSSIBLE BUG: Latest WIN beta version doesn't seem to work with .dts files. Same audio track in an .mkv container does read/analyze. Older version used to work okay. Sample here: https://we.tl/t-m6fm3GLCyd and MediaInfo data for the audio file here: https://justpaste.it/cnwf0

SUGGESTIONS: 1) After reading initial analysis for multi-channel audio, if you switch channels, it has to start from scratch, even if you go back to an earlier channel, which was already analyzed in full before. Analysis could be stored in memory/cache instead of re-analyzing each time.

2) The w, W shortcut key for "Change the DFT window size." does not rotate back to lowest value but can only increase when pressed. Could be made to go back to start, similar to behaviour of other shortcut keys such as p or f.

Thank you so so so very much for continuing development and support for this amazing little tool! It is absolutely insane that free, light-weight software like this can take almost any filetype you throw at it, while paid professional software like Audition cannot! Keep it up fine sir! <3

I can reproduce the .dts issue, thank you for sharing the sample, I'll investigate.

Caching analysis (or at least the decoded audio stream) is on the roadmap. It's the trade off between memory and performance.

Cycling with w/W works for me, what is your language and keyboard layout?

Thank you for the kind words!

Expand full comment
skull88's avatar

Thanks for quick response. Maybe could be a Preference switch for caching/memory/performance mode or something? For w/W cycling, my keyboard/language is US-English and I think I understand what's happening -- using W (capital) goes back to lower values and w goes up until max. But if you keep pressing either, it doesn't cycle around back to top/bottom, just stops at lowest/highest value. Whereas, p or f will keep coming back around, if you know what I mean? But all good, I get the usage of w/W now. Maybe works as intended. Cheers!

Hi, 0.8.5. version is only for Win 64bit, but I'm still using, for objective reasons, Win7 Ultimate 32bit. There are any chances a 32 bit releases? Thank you.
