Spek has been moved to Substack, this will make it easier for me to keep the website up to date and for you to follow the project.
There was a flurry of activity in the codebase in 2022, the most notable change was updating Spek with the latest FFmpeg version.
A new source-only version has been released (v0.8.5), this is mainly done to bring Spek back to Debian and derivatives. There’s another independent effort to make a Flatpack package for Spek.
The next step for the project is releasing binary packages for Windows and macOS, this will bring all the features added to the project over the last few years. I’ll post a detailed list when the packages are available, in the meantime post a comment if you are interested in beta-testing a new Windows or macOS build.
would Logmarithmic scale be in soon?
POSSIBLE BUG: Latest WIN beta version doesn't seem to work with .dts files. Same audio track in an .mkv container does read/analyze. Older version used to work okay. Sample here: https://we.tl/t-m6fm3GLCyd and MediaInfo data for the audio file here: https://justpaste.it/cnwf0
SUGGESTIONS: 1) After reading initial analysis for multi-channel audio, if you switch channels, it has to start from scratch, even if you go back to an earlier channel, which was already analyzed in full before. Analysis could be stored in memory/cache instead of re-analyzing each time.
2) The w, W shortcut key for "Change the DFT window size." does not rotate back to lowest value but can only increase when pressed. Could be made to go back to start, similar to behaviour of other shortcut keys such as p or f.
Thank you so so so very much for continuing development and support for this amazing little tool! It is absolutely insane that free, light-weight software like this can take almost any filetype you throw at it, while paid professional software like Audition cannot! Keep it up fine sir! <3
